Personal Testimony - Gill Brooksbank

I can’t ever remember a time while I was growing up, when church wasn’t part of my life. My parents attended church and I went along to Sunday School, but it wasn’t until my Auntie became a Christian that I began to realise that there was more to going to church than just attending a service on a Sunday.  She would talk to me about having a friendship with Jesus, and it was through her witness that I gave my life to the Lord when I was about 15.

When I came back from college, I carried on going to church, taught at Sunday School and joined a Bible Study and Prayer Group, but over the last few years, I became disillusioned with the church I was attending and gradually stopped going. I knew I needed to find another church, but which one?

Then, last year, Mary Atkins suggested that I come along to Time for God one Thursday. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly that I immediately felt at home, and, after a lot of prayer and heart searching, I felt that this was where God wanted me.

Anthony announced that he was going to organise some talks for anyone interested in Baptism or Church Membership. I thought that as I had already been baptised as a baby and confirmed in the Church of England, that I would ask for membership. But the Lord had other ideas! It was the right time in my Christian journey to stand up and be counted, and declare what was on my heart – that I love my Lord. So I asked for baptism and church membership.

When I look back over the last 5 years, I can see the Lord’s hand on my life, guiding and directing, and changing me little by little into the person that I can be in Him. I know that there are exciting times ahead for me as my relationship with the Lord grows and deepens, and as I begin to serve Him here.
