My name is Charlie Kennedy. I have been coming to this church in its present position since it was first built. I was brought up in a Christian family and have gone to Sunday School since I was little. But when I was about 14 or 15, I stopped going to church because of other commitments, such as rugby. However I still went to Boys’ Brigade and to the Parade Services. After a while, Boys’ Brigade for the older boys stopped and so I went to an associated organisation, organised by Peter Andrews, called Amicus. Then, when that stopped, I stopped going to church.
However I was attending Princethorpe College so I did not totally lose contact with God. But one day when I was in year 10, I came home as usual with my sister. My mum was waiting for us and she told us that one of my brother’s friends, Craig, had died. For some reason, I’m not sure why, I wanted to go to church that Sunday. Apparently since then, so I’ve been told, I’ve never missed a Sunday. I have also helped with First Sunday and Boys' Brigade.
I know that God has guided me though my life, even though I might not think it, but He has always been there for me and kept me on the right track. I decided to get baptised because I wanted to show publicly how I feel, that I follow God and trust him in everything. I know He died to save me and so I will put my life in His hands.
There are a lot of people I have to thank for getting me on to this stage. I will name a few; Peter Andrews, who was the captain when I joined BB and who was later joined by his wife Lesley; the Powersource leaders, Jayne, Steve, James, Michelle and Maria. I also have to thank especially Anthony, who, though he has only recently joined the church as our minister, has helped me prepare for baptism. I have to thank all my friends in the Senior Powersource group, who have given support and advice, and encouraged me. Also I have to thank the Meacham family who go to the church in Rugby, especially their sons, who have helped me a lot and given me advice and a lot of laughs.
Thanks
